Welcome to the Best School in Newark
From the Desk of the Director
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the last few weeks of the 2012-2013 school year. It has been amazing to see the academic, physical, social and emotional growth of our students in the short span of a year. I want to take a moment to thank the, parents, students, staff and all of the other members of the GNCS community who helped to make our academics and activities run smoothly throughout the year.
I want to recognize our graduating 8th graders, and the talented teachers and support personnel who assisted them in reaching one of the many milestones that they will achieve in their lifetimes. It has been a source of pride to hear of the numerous high school acceptances that our eighth graders have received, and of the possibilities of their attending some of the finest high schools in the state. Our students set goals of being accepted at particular high schools and through hard work and determination they were able to obtain the goals that were set.
To our returning students and parents, the staff looks forward to working with you as we help even more students to realize their dreams. We have some wonderful initiatives planned for the very near future, to include the schools expansion and enrollment of our first kindergarteners, to the revision of our curriculum to add classes and components that will challenge our students, and prepare them for high school and beyond.
IMPORTANT GNCS EXPANSION ANNOUNCEMENT!
As many of you may know our GNCS is expanding to meet the needs of more students in the Greater Newark area. In doing so we have outgrown our current facility located at 72 Central Ave. In order to properly serve our new kindergarten and incoming 5th grade classes, we will be moving our kindergarten and 5th grade students to our newly planned Elementary School Campus located at 118 7th Ave. (the former St. Lucy’s Community Center) in Newark. GNCS students in grades 6-8 will continue to attend classes at the 72 Central Ave. location which will undergo planned renovations, and serve as our Middle School Campus.
These new facilities allow for our school’s growth in the elementary grades, while providing our 6-8 middle school students with a unique educational experience in our present building. Classes began for all students at both locations on September 4, 2013.
We want to thank you for entrusting us with your children’s education, and will make every effort to insure that you are not disappointed. We appreciate your hard work and ask your continued support as we continue to move toward our goal of being the BEST school in Newark.
Over the next few weeks we will continue to make preparations to receive students, and will be back in touch very shortly to arrange tours of the Elementary Campus for both our incoming kindergarten and 5th grade students and parents. In the meantime, feel free to call us at 973-242-3543 x202 with any questions or concerns.
Testimonial from Mr. Ramos, GNCS Social Studies Teacher
A professor once told me that a teacher makes over 1,000 decisions every day. I have found that to be completely true in my tenure here at Greater Newark Charter School.
